NIGHT VIEW OF THE DAKSHINESWAR KALI TEMPLE -KOLKATA

Legend has it Rani Rashmoni , a philanthropic zamindar and a devout worshiper of Goddess Kali was about to set out on a pilgrimage to Varanasi to offer prayers to the mother goddess .The night before her departure she had a divine vision where the goddess asked her to build her a temple near the Ganges . Profoundly affected by the dream ,the Rani immediately looked after purchased a 30,000- acre plot on the eastern bank of the Ganges in Dakshineswar . The temple was built between 1845 and 1855 at a cost of INR 9 lakhs.
