Thakurdwar Temple (Code: 138) – Mounted and Wooden Frame

₹3,000.00 – ₹30,000.00

Behind Chowpatty in South Mumbai, lies what many consider a city within a city — Girgaum. Its name is derived from the Sanskrit words giri (hill) and grama (village). Thus, Girgaon means a village at the foothill of mountains referring to its location at the foot of Malabar Hill. The term Thakurdwar originates from two Marathi terms: ‘Thakur’ which translates to Vishnu and ‘dwar’ which translates to door. Located at the junction of Thakurdwar Road and Girgaum Road, is the Thakurdwar Temple, built by the ascetic Atmaram Baba, in 1838.  The temple was viewed as the gateway to the lord. The temple contains symbols of the trinity comprising Bramha (creator), Vishnu (the protector) and Shiva (the destroyer).
