All Saints Church, Malabar Hill (Code: 033) – Mounted and Wooden Frames

₹3,000.00 – ₹30,000.00

Built-in 1871 with private funds and a government grant of Rs 5,000, the All Saint’s Church was intended to be a church or chapel for those who did not wish to travel 8 miles to St Thomas Cathedral, Fort, for services. The building is designed in the modern style by Major Mant of the Royal Engineers. It has a central nave measuring 42 feet by 23 feet, a semi-circular chancel about 16 feet in diameter and a vestry of 10 feet square. The walls were constructed of irregular Porbunder or Kurla stone, while the roof is tiled with Mangalore tiles. The design included a neat belfry tower, and the extreme height of the building from base to tower was 64 feet. But the bell turret, with its wooden steeple, was removed in 1951 when it was damaged by a cyclone. It now rests above the vestry door. It became a permanent place of worship for the governors of Bombay after the Governor’s official residence was shifted from Parel to Malabar Hill in 1881.
