Ill Palazzo sir Solomon David sasson bunglow (Code: 199) – Mounted & Wooden Frames

Sir Solomon David Sassoon was known as the ‘Badshah of business’. He established the 1st oil mill under the name of E.D. Sassoon Mills, and then went on to establish 16 more.

His greatest achievements, for which the city will always be in his debt, are his contributions to the development of the city.  These include the Sassoon Mechanics Institute, now known as the David Sassoon Library, the David Sassoon Technical High School at Dhobi Talao, Royal Institute of Science on the Esplanade, Sir David Sassoon Hospital within the J.J.Hospital compound and the beautiful Maghen David Synagogue in Byculla.

Originally, his family home was the erstwhile Shin Sangoo palace, with 8 acres of gardens in Byculla, which he renamed as ‘Sans Souci’ meaning without worries.  But  his family transferred it in 1902 to the Masina Hospital Trust to establish the Masina Hospital.

His final home, Il Palazzo, on Malabar Hill, was a beautiful ground + 1 structure in wood, with extensive grounds at the back, and looking out towards Chowpatty Beach. The bungalow was replaced by Il Palazzo residence tower and The Malabar Hill Club.
