‘Eden Gardens’ is popularly associated with the internationally famous cricket stadium of Calcutta . However , the stadium was named after the Eden Garden Park opposite to it .

Spread over 50 acres of land with a variety of plants and tress . fountain and a band stand ,the Park ,a beautiful promenade along the river was a gift of two Eden sisters Emily and Fanny ,sisters of  Lord George Auckland Eden, Governor  General of India from 1836 to 1842 to the city .Emily was an amateur artist had a keen Gardner , it was at their behest that lawns ,flower gardens , rows of palm trees , fountain were created and work started on Eden Garden Park with the two sister and supervisors and captain Fitzgerald as chief architect. In 1842 the park was open to the public .
